CONTACT: Elizabeth Miller FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FAMILIES AND WORK INSTITUTE PRESIDENT ELLEN GALINSKY INDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF HUMAN RESOURCES NEW YORK, NY – November 10, 2005 – Ellen May Galinsky, president and co-founder of Families and Work Institute, was recently inducted into the National Academy of Human Resources (NAHR), an honor considered the most prestigious in the field of human resources. “By election to the Academy, the members of the 2005 Class of Fellows have been acknowledged by their peers as reaching the very highest level of achievement in the human resources profession,” said William J. Conaty, chair of NAHR and senior vice president of General Electric Company. “Each of these professionals has made sustained and exemplary contributions to the broad field of human resources and we welcome them to the National Academy of the Human Resources.” Galinsky, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, co-founded the Manhattan-based Families and Work Institute in 1989 and has dedicated her life’s work to the study of the changing workforce, the changing family and the changing community. She holds a B.A. in child studies from Vassar College and a M.S. in child development from Bank Street College of Education where she was a member of the faculty for 25 years. She also holds three honorary doctoral degrees. A leading authority on work family issues, Galinsky was a presenter at the 2000 White House Conference on Teenagers and the 1997 White House Conference on Child Care. Her most recent awards include of the 2004 Distinguished Achievement Award from Vassar College, the Purple Crayon Award for Community Service (with her husband Norman) by Child Care Resources of Rockland and the 2005 Alumnae Award for Outstanding Volunteer and Professional Achievement from National Cathedral School in Washington, DC. Galinsky also received the Distinguished West Virginian Award in 1996 in recognition of meritous service in her home state. The author of 30 books, including the acclaimed Ask the Children, she is a popular keynote speaker, and appears regularly in the national media, including Today, Good Morning America, 20/20,Oprah and most recently The Early Show. Galinsky was nominated by for NAHR by Ted Childs, Vice President of Global Workforce Diversity for IBM, and was one of eight fellows inducted into the 2005 class. The complete 2005 class includes:
