New Age Transportation
New Age Transportation is a small company (less than 50 employees) that has partnered with employees to find work solutions that enable them to meet their family responsibilities and to do their job well. One outcome has been an onsite daycare center. Although the center is not licensed, it is a huge success with working parents who bring their own nannies. The parents find they can focus better on the job knowing their children are near. Founder Carolyn Gable credits her company's success with the mutual respect between employer and employee. When employees are respected and valued as whole people, this translates to the customer.

Pfizer saw a business demand for a more flexible sales force to meet increasing marketplace challenges. Additionally Pfizer saw an increasing need for a more flexible work schedule for some of its sales colleagues, so as to continue to engage highly talented sales representation whose work/life balance may change over the course of their careers. A critical design element of the VISTA Field Force is creating opportunity for career enhancement and development including the opportunity to return to a full time position. The VISTA Sales Force, now in its fourth year has met these compelling business needs. Lastly, VISTA Field Force is an extraordinary example of Pfizer's innovation and industry leadership in its people practices.

SC Johnson is a fifth generation, family-owned company that manufactures some of the world's most well-known brands, including Glade®, Windex®, OFF!®, Ziploc®,
and Edge®. The company has a history of valuing people for their individual talents and recognizing that they have lives and responsibilities outside of work. One of the flexible programs SC Johnson offers is a sabbatical leave for employees who have been with the company five or more years. After five years, employees can take eight weeks off with 25 percent pay and full benefits. After 10 years, they can take 12 weeks off with 25 percent pay and full benefits. The company also offers telecommuting, flexible work hours and a newly expanded childcare center.
