Alfred P. Sloan Awards For Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility**

Families and Work Institute, with partner organizations the Center for Workforce Preparation, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Center for Emerging Futures and sponsor the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, announce the Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, to recognize and honor companies that successfully use flexibility to meet both business and employee goals.

In their inaugural year of 2004, the Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility will be announced nationally, and implemented locally in eight communities: Brooklyn, NY; Providence, RI; Durham, NC; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Dallas, TX; Long Beach, CA; and Salt Lake City, UT.

Eligibility
All companies as well as company divisions and work units with a central office located in the selected communities will be eligible for the awards, regardless of size or industry or profit or non-profit status.

Application Process
The application process consists of three phases:
1. Company Nomination Form - Full nomination details and deadlines will be posted in November 2004. Please fill out the preliminary nomination form below so that we may contact you with further information later.
2. Families and Work Institute survey to be completed by the company to describe flexibility programs and policies, including an open-ended essay question to assess the company culture and the impact of flexibility on the company and its employees.
3. The company will provide a random list of employees to complete a brief online Families and Work Institute survey to assess the use, implementation and culture of flexibility in the company.

*When Work Works: A Project on Workplace Effectiveness and Workplace Flexibility is part of a larger collaboration with Workplace Flexibility 2010 at Georgetown University Law Center and with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

** The Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility is a collaboration with the Alliance for Work-Life Progress, Corporate Voices for Working Families, Boston College Center for Work & Family and The Conference Board's Work-Life Leadership Council.
